18-wheeler crashes off expressway

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (HotSpringsDaily.com) - An eighteen wheeler was involved in a single vehicle accident near the intersection of the Martin Luther King Expressway and Albert Pike Tuesday morning around 9:45am.

The truck, a Peterbilt owned by CFT Inc. of Portland, Tennessee, was taking the westbound exit off the expressway to Albert Pike when it lost control in the curve and turned over. The truck and trailer slid all the way to the bottom of the hill where the trailer struck some trees and was torn apart.

Garland County inmate briefly escapes custody

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - Authorities in Garland County quickly recaptured an inmate who escaped custody while attending his arraignment.

Derrick Glenn Estell was in custody on charges of aggravated robbery and fleeing. The Sentinel-Record reports that Estell was in Garland County Circuit Court on Tuesday for an arraignment when he reportedly escaped from the jury box area of the courtroom.

Police say Estell fled on foot but was captured a few blocks away within a few minutes. Authorities say he was arrested without incident.

Authorities say Estell will likely face an additional escape charge because of the incident.

ASMSA to hold commencement ceremony May 25

HOT SPRINGS — The Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts will hold its commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25, in Summit Arena at the Hot Springs Convention Center. There are 97 students in the Class of 2013.

Three seniors will speak during the ceremony. Student Government Association President Sorena Lo of Paris will give the senior address. Mehr Shah of Little Rock will provide the welcome, and Dimple Shah of Paragould will give the senior speech. Lo is the daughter of Vanessa and Hue Lo. Mehr Shah is the daughter of Sitara and M.B. Shah. Dimple Shah is the daughter of Nisha and Himansu Shah.

AHSCA announces 2013 All-Star Baseball/Softball/Soccer coaches

CONWAY, Ark. (AAA) - The Arkansas Activities Association announced the head coaches and coaching staffs for the 2013 Arkansas Army National Guard/Arkansas High School Coaches Association All-Star Baseball, Softball and Soccer games on June 18-19, 2013.

UCA associate athletic director Darrell Walsh welcomed the members of the AHSCA, the 2013 All-Star coaches and media representatives during the morning press conference.

This marks the 58th anniversary of All-Star competition and the 10th for baseball, softball and soccer.

Lamar Aaron McKenzie, 401 Neptune Street, was arrested on charges of Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Criminal Mischief in the 1st Degree, Breaking or Entering and Criminal Attempt to Commit Theft over $5,000.

Shortly before 11pm Sunday night, officers with the Hot Spring Police Department were dispatched to the Spring Hotel, 135 Central Avenue in referenced to an aggravated robbery.

Magic Springs to Host FLOW Tour Competition at Boogie Blast

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KTHV) -- THV 11's Craig O'Neill sits down with Dana Whisenhunt, Marketing Director for Magic Springs, to talk about the 2nd annual Boogie Blast featuring the FLOW Tour Competition.

The competition will be held on Sunday, May 26 from Noon to 6 p.m. Practice and registration is Saturday, May 25, 5 to 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 26 from 10 a.m. to Noon.

There are two divisions, Bodyboard and Flowboard, to accommodate ages 12 and under up to the professional level. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each division. The Bodyboard and Flowboard categories will be broken up as follows: Youth (12 and younger), Women (all ages), Junior (13 - 17), Men (18 - 34), Masters (35 and older) and Professional.
