Take a 'Moment' in Hot Springs

Take a 'Moment' in Hot Springs

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. -- On October 20, 2012, several thousand pilgrims are expected to arrive in Hot Springs for a massive prayer event being called "The Moment". Called a "Planetary Pentecost" by Rev. David Hulse, founder of the RISE Wellness Center, Hot Springs, this event is expected to draw global attention and attendance.

It is the goal of The Moment event to bring people from all over the planet to join hands, hearts and minds, in prayer for healing. Manataka with this history of peace, healing and wonder seems a perfect place for such an endeavor, says Rev. Hulse.

Growing up in Oklahoma, Rev. Hulse has always felt a connection with Native American peoples. After several years of ministering in Hot Springs, where he first heard about the Manataka Sacred Site, he decided to relocate here. "There is a language of the Heart," says Rev. Hulse.

Doris James is a freelance writer and former broadcaster from Arkansas, and a big fan of Joey the Garden Cat. You can follow her online as MizBejabbers.

During an evening newscast at a local television station, a slender gray striped cat hops upon the news desk. Anchor Liz Massey smiles and says, “Oh, here’s Joey.” The cat sits on the desk and gives the camera a green-eyed stare as Liz and fellow-anchor Craig O’Neil carry on with the newscast. The privileged feline is Joey the Garden cat who is a staff member of KTHV, the CBS affiliate in Little Rock, Arkansas. Joey has become a big TV celebrity in Arkansas and his fame is spreading nationally.

Volunteers needed for MS bike benefit

Volunteers needed for MS bike benefit

The National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society-Arkansas is looking for volunteers to help with the Bike MS: Rock’n Hot Ride. On September 8 and 9, more than 150 cyclists are expected to ride and help raise the goal of $95,000. Funds raised will support direct services and programs for the more than 2,900 people living with MS and their families in Arkansas and national MS research to find a cure for this chronic disease of the central nervous system. But they will not be able to do it without the help of people like you!

Volunteers have a variety of motivations fo r involvement. Dawn Sanders from Bryant, Ark., is involved this year because she has made a resolution to stay involved in her community. "It is so rewarding to see the event come together," said Dawn.

(July 6, 2012) Little Rock, AR - Little Rock Fashion Week (LRFW) is teaming up for the second consecutive year with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arkansas (BBBSCA), as its non-profit partner.

Last year, LRFW partnered with BBBSCA to help recruit more mentors, raise funds, and bring more community awareness to BBBSCA's goals of providing "children facing adversity with strong and enduring one on one professionally supported relationships." For Campbell, who was a "little" from age eight to eleven years old, his participation inspired him to do more. This upcoming school year, Campbell will be a mentor to a "little" in elementary school.

"Being a mentor is my life's purpose. It had been a dream of mine for years. After LRFW 2011, I knew the timing was right for me to make it official," says Campbell. "I believe that a great work ethic and transferring it to community involvement makes a bigger impact.
