The Theba Thing: Women who like MMA

"The Theba Thing" is about stepping out of my comfort zone, meeting new people and trying the things that have been on my mind and heart.

I have watched Mixed Martial Arts for years now. How did this happen? Well, I was channel surfing one night and caught two men in this cage-like thing - called The Octagon - not just boxing; but kicking, wrestling and engaged in all of these other creative and amazing maneuvers. I’m sure my interest to stop on this channel also had something to do with these incredibly-built, bare-chested men. I’m not going to lie.    

Nevertheless, I was amazed by the sport itself, because it’s so action packed. You couldn't count anyone out. A guy could be taller or smaller; have major muscles or look like he’s never lifted a barbell. You just never knew who was going to win with a punch, a submission, a kick, or a leg-lock.

Joey's prints for sale

One of the brightest moments of my professional life at Today's THV was when Joey The Garden Cat found his way into the Weather Garden. It didn't take long to recognize he was a show stealer with his adorable antics, photogenic features and commanding attitude.

The introduction of Facebook helped launch his popularity…not only in Arkansas but all over the world. And then when Animal Planet featured him in a segment of "Must Love Cats" -- well, Joey's appeal became electric and his fans demanded more.

So, as his primary caretaker I took on the role of Momma/Agent and what a treat it is to hear from and interact with his fans.

Jingle Mingle brings holiday cheer

The Second Annual Jingle Mingle, co-sponsored by the Little Rock Fashion Week, Lulav Eatery, Heart Beat 106.7 FM and Arkansas Times, helped provide over 4,900 dinners and raised over $3,200 to the Compassion Center during the Christmas holiday.

On December 23, hundreds of people attended the Jingle Mingle, hosted at Lulav. Guests were asked to donate four can goods in order to receive free admission into the event and half off on their first drink.

LRFW co-sponsors Jingle Mingle charity food drive

Little Rock Fashion Week is a presenting sponsor for the 2nd annual Little Rock Jingle Mingle, which will be December 23 at 9 pm. The event is being hosted at Lulav Eatery, located at 220 West 6th Street in downtown Little Rock. Guests receive free admission and half off on their first drink by donating at least four can goods that will go to the Little Rock Compassion Center.

LRFW joins Lulav, Hear Beat 106.7 FM and Arkansas Times as sponsors for this one-of-a-kind evening to celebrate the holidays.
