ASMSA to hold commencement ceremony May 25

HOT SPRINGS — The Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts will hold its commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25, in Summit Arena at the Hot Springs Convention Center. There are 97 students in the Class of 2013.

Three seniors will speak during the ceremony. Student Government Association President Sorena Lo of Paris will give the senior address. Mehr Shah of Little Rock will provide the welcome, and Dimple Shah of Paragould will give the senior speech. Lo is the daughter of Vanessa and Hue Lo. Mehr Shah is the daughter of Sitara and M.B. Shah. Dimple Shah is the daughter of Nisha and Himansu Shah.

Debonair Project 'perfect fit' for ASMSA students

HOT SPRINGS — During a Residence Life Office staff meeting at the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts last year, DeKevious Wilson listened as his fellow staff members spoke about the upcoming 2012 prom.

At one point, the school’s Cinderella Project was discussed. The program provides donated prom dresses for an affordable price for female ASMSA students.

“I sat and thought ‘O.K. I’ve heard of the Cinderella Project that they do for the females,’ and I was waiting to hear something for the males,” said Wilson, who served his first year as a residential mentor during the 2011-12 school year. “When I didn’t hear anything, it kind of struck something with me, knowing a lot of the students might not have the means to rent a tux or buy a suit.”

That was when the DeKevious Wilson Debonair Project was born.

Keep on Truckin’ at Mid-America Science Museum

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. -- Mid-America Science Museum is gearing up for the fourth annual Keep on Truckin' event, Saturday, March 16. Children of all sizes, ages, and abilities are invited to rub elbows with their hometown heroes while exploring full size vehicles in the Hot Springs area.

This year’s event features fire rescue equipment, construction equipment, Bessie the cow, and a mobile aquarium. From 10 am - 2 pm children of all ages are encouraged to explore, interact with, and enjoy the big wheels.

Tickets are $5 at the door and include pizza from Papa John’s; plus the first 100 children receive a free t-shirt. All visitors will also receive discounted admission into the Museum. (Saturday, March 16 only) All proceeds from this fundraiser benefit the Museum’s exhibits and educational programming.

Hot Springs Lakeside Senior Goes All Out For Prom Date

They say that your high school years are some of the most memorable.

Hot Springs senior Noah Donoho surprised his girlfriend, Anna Nester by asking her to the Lakeside High School prom on the balcony of the Arlington Hotel. Anna is Homeschooled.

Below, on the promenade, a group of Donoho’s friends spelled out prom with yellow and blue balloons. After Nester agreed to the date, the balloons were released into the blue skies over the Arlington Hotel.
