HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - The 2012 Miss Arkansas pageant begins this week in Hot Springs.

The Sentinel-Record reports (http://is.gd/PEaUZ9 ) that the 47 contestants arrived Sunday for the festivities. This year, more than $87,000 in scholarships will be awarded.

Preliminaries begin Wednesday night and run through Sunday at Summit Arena. The finals are 7 p.m. Saturday, when outgoing Miss Arkansas Kristen Glover will crown the new winner.

Organizers say this year's pageant features 25 newcomers.

This year's event marks the 75th anniversary of the pageant. Portraits of previous Miss Arkansas winners will be on display, along with their gowns and crowns.
